Question VXR - slight smell of petrol?? help!

hey people, picked up my new car on tues, VXR astra, was used as a test drive car so only had 122miles on it, but ive got a few problems that i wondered if you lot could help me out with

1. when driving along with one or both windows open, there seems to be a slight smell of petrol. if the windows are closed its fine, no smell at all. Im a mechanic so ive had a look round for anything that might give me a clue but it doesnt smell when its jst idling, no visible leaks, no nothing! any ideas?

2. The power delivery seems to be different in different gears! in 2nd gear, it goes ok, 3rd gear it flies along, but then when you put it in 4th it seems to back off, you can hear it in the exhaust note and feel its just simply not pulling as hard, what could this be? boost controller problem maybe?

the car is standard other than i had a remus turbo back system fitted before i had it.

thanks
jon

A few people on VXR Online have this problem.. A lot is due to the seal on the filler cap being faulty but someone on there the other day had the pipe that connects the filler area to the tank come loose.

I had the same problem, could smell it after a run. Popped the bonnet and nothing... been confused for a while. Until today, went to fill up and the fuel cap was loose! No more petrol smell!

hhmmm rite ok guys thanks for that, il have to check the filler cap then, i have already put fuel in it once and the cap wasnt loose from what i could tell. would you still smell it even if the passenger window was open, with the filler neck being on the drivers side?
and are the boost controllers a common problem on these engines? as its only got 350miles on it!?

thanks
jon
