Double Din MK4 Astra Centre Console

Thought I would share my latest mod

Custom built myself a double din console

Console has a double gauge pod on top ready for a new boost gauge, and an AFR gauge

Top half is Gloss black, with the lower section trimmed in black/charcoal suede to match A pillars, plus B C pillars and roof lining when I get round to it

Got it off eBay, had to cut a lot of the base away from it to get it to fit with the contours of console

It's fairly simple, just a case of getting dimensions for double din and cutting the top and bottom of heater control section out

Then cutting the bottom of lower dins remaining pegs

Put the pegs up and the heater control down

Thread some wooden dowel through the channels in the console

You will see them when you cut it up

Don't use threaded bar as it will expand in heat and crack the console, which I found out from experience before

Then measure to check its all correct

Plastic weld it into one piece

    Skim with filler

    Sand smooth and paint up

Good bit of info there mate. I'm off down the scrappy today to get a couple of spares to have a go with.
Wanna see how much room there is behind the heater vents and MFD as thinking about possibly putting a unit up there on mine.

You would be okay with heater vents and top din slot for it

But there's a lot of inner dash between the mfd and the heater vents

Not sure if anything structural behind it but there is the dash card material

Aye, had a look and gonna use the vents and single din to fit it in.

Question, what colour is the top part of your painted in?
