Question How well did you do at school......

Thread inspired by helping my 8 year old with her homework, got me thinking...

I only managed two GCSE's one maths and one english, this was partly due to the fact that i was working full time on a building site at the age of 15.

Now i personally wish i would have done much better so that i could have sorted a much better future for myself and family.

Question is if you had the chance to go back to school, would you ?
If you are going to go through hell, keep going.

did awful at my school (comparitively speaking - compared to the rest of my class who had been recruited via entrance examination and were all A* students) At GCSE I got 3 B's, 4 C's and a D (in maths, as I have dyscalculia, which wasn't known about back then, I only got a pass grade due to my mum's Dutch friend who is a lecturer in maths at a university, and also specialises in special needs kids, giving me intensive extra lessons in the school holidays)

For A-level I was doing English Language, French, Geography and Biology, but was only predicted D's and E's so the school wouldn't let me finish my A levels as I would have dragged down their league tables compared to all the A* students (ie everyone but me). It was a private boarding school, because my dad was posted abroad where there weren't English speaking schools for my sister & I to go to, they paid for us to go to a cheap'n'cheerful English boarding school, unfortunately for them it was bought by a millionaire who then turned it into one of the most expensive in the country, but because the company couldn't make us leave during critical exam times, they had to keep on paying the higher rate for us to attend lol.

However when I went to agricultural college because I was good at what I was doing, (and had also previously trained as a horse riding instructor anyway) I aced the course, was top of the class, was one of only two students on the course to pass with a Distinction standard and gained "best overall student award" - which came as a bit of a shock as I'd always been the idiot and bottom of the class at school!

After many years working in my chosen area I've recently retrained as an NVQ assessor which means I'm basically an examiner now

I love learning and am happy to keep on learning stuff, I wouldn't be averse to going back to school, but not sure with the 15 year gap or so since I was last studying A-levels if I'd be able to go back and actually GET my predicted D & E scores.

Rubbish GCSES, but obtained 11. A to E. Went to college for 2 years and got a GNVQ advanced qualification in IT. Currently work for the UKs premier TOC. Took over 8 applications to get here, got an interview everytime, but never managed to make it thru stage 3 of the recruitment process. Application>Test>Role Play>Group excercise> if you passed all that, then you got an interview.

My hard work payed off and now I earn in excess of 30k a year for 35 hours a week, final salary pay scheme, 32 days holidays, plus a pay rise every year, this april its 5%, which is superb.

I dont actually think my qualifications actually got me anywhere as they recruit purely on your efforts throughout the recruitment stage, but having a brain helped!

My best advice, experience, experience, experience.

Didn't do too well, 3 C's and the rest were D's. But as funny as it sounds all the folks that did crap are actually doing well in life and the ones that did well at school are doing pretty badly. Thats only based on the folks I've kept in contact with. Can't believe it's almost 5 years since I was sitting them, lol.
