    please can any one help with coolant problem

    hi have recently picked up a 2003 astra 1.8 sri and having problems with coolant system air locking found reciets in car had new rad and thermostat last month but heaters keep blowing cold and you can hear the water pipes making poping sound open expantion tank and water over flows also the water is returning bk into expantion tank through wrong pipe the one at front not side (had garage check for head gasket gone and showing ok)
    if any one got any ideas would be realy greatfull thankyou

    sound mate i have got it booked in for cambelt and pump next week because the low life who sold it me tampered with service history and said belt changed 2 month ago cheked belt and lookin old

    sounds like it could be a blockage somewhere maybe in the hose from the expansion tank into the main cooling system that might explain why the tank overfills might be a good idea to get the cooling system flushed before they do the cam belt and water pump change

    i flushed it out today and hoses seem clear but put them bk on and filled up still not circulating just wants to keep bubling up also wen you squeez bottom hose going from rad to thermostat housing feels empty

    keep taking pipes off and check flow individually through the radiator heater matrix and engine block perhaps the last owner tried to fix the faulty radiator before they had it replaced and filled the system with something that has clogged it

    never thought of that u mean there could be some rad weld crap clogging some were ile have another go tommorow thanks for the advice

    Is it bubling up with the cap on ?

    I had a similair issue which ended up being the expansion tank cap. Check to make sure yours looks ok, if not then replace it , will only be a couple of quid

    Had this same problem with mine. Took car back to garage x2. It appears the after-market thermostats are less than useless...they look like they should work but don't...anyway garage fitted a branded make and coolant flows through correct pipe and heater started to work.
    Not sure if this is what's up with yours but cured mine.

    job done all the blades on water pump had broken of garage couldnt believe that the head gasket hadnt fryed
