    Question about refurbing wheels

Hey guys I have a question, when refurbing wheels with the tyres on how have you gone about covering the tyres to stop paint getting on them? When I did my old set of wheels I really struggled to keep the paint off if you have any photos or good tips I'd very much appreciate it

If you have a slight stretch to the tyres its easy. I just used brown packaging tape and taped the tyre up. Can get it into the stretch, leaving the edge of the rim exposed.
The first time I did it I taped on newspaper, but it was easier just to do the whole sidewall with tape TBH.

2 x pack of playing cards. Overlap and slot them in and they sit up at a nice angle.
Seen it done but personally i would just tape them up such as this -

Dont worry about paint getting on the tyre tread. That will soon rub off when wheels back on.

Lol just noticed the thread title, anyone change it to refurbing??

Last time I did it I used tape but took forever and the tape didn't stick to the tyre well. Would masking tape work well? Got tons of it

Not really. I tried it with the blue detailing tape thats like masking tape, not sticky enough. The big brown stuff is the best, it just leaves a bit of glue behind in places, but soon comes off with a wash and some tyre shine.

Cool will grab a few rolls from wh smiths tomorrow then, what do I do about 'squashed' curb marks where it sticks out towards the edge of the tyre if you get me?

Guess you would need to sand or file them down if you can get to them.
I used normal body filler on the curb marks for mine to fill them. Has held in fine although it was only tiny amounts used after if was sanded smooth.

deflating the tyre helps a little, and then get some good quality masking tape, from a bodyshop suppliers, i never have problems with the masking tape i use sticking to the tyre

don't use detailing tape or brown packing tape as they don't stick very well, aswell as the brown packing tape can splatter paint onto the wheels
