    Exclamation will it blow the engine

    i have a astra 1.6 8 valve does any one know if cambelt snaps on this will it blow the engine or not i know there are some engines that are ok when cambelt goes but i dont know about this one.

    wont blow up but you will end up with a fair size repair bill! talking over 1K. will bend the valves, dent the pistons etc.
    Just because it smokes like a taxi doesnt mean it goes like one

    lol my old 2.0dt smoked like a taxi and that was newer
    i now some engines dont do the pistons and hoped this was one

    Now for the facts.....

    the 8v is a non-interference engine

    if the belt slips or snaps or anything along those lines, just pop on a new belt, tensioner, water pump & stat is a good idea whilst its off and away u go

    indeed Marti is as usual bang on the money.
    the 8v unit is a rare breed of engine in the vauxhall family that does not destroy itself should the belt fail

    sorry my bad, used to 16v engines. at the end of the day if its due a change you should change it

    dont want to pull out at a junction and have the belt snap and end up sitting in the middle of the road with no drive ? or will the 8v continue to run with no timing ?
