difference between 208 and 308 brakes??

    right, a lil confused..

bought some brand spankers "308" front brake setup off a member on here,

    disks, carriers, calipers, pads etc..

had 2 new tyres fitted last week so got them to chuck em on for me as the wheels were off.

now im telling him they are an upgrade from the standard brakes but when i picked the car up he asked me "what was upgraded about them"?

side by side the disks and callipers are identical??( ok the worn disks are slightly thinner due to wear and tear)

is it that 308's have more powerful pistons or something as i dont really see a difference is the braking either

Do you mean 280 and 308's?

The numbers are the disc size so the 308's would be 28mm larger and the calliper bracket moves the calliper out a bit.

280 and 308 are the disk size in MM (diameter).

    so the answer is 308-280 = 28mm.

Ventalated disk are normally the same width just the diameter varies on the models.

Biggest difference I noticed was changing the brake fluid.

If its not been done for 2 years do it and you will feel an immediate difference.

sorry to piss on your fire mate, but judging by your user panel u have a 1.9 CDTi do u not???

standard setup on the 1.9 is 308mm

looks like youve been robbed and bought an identical setup to what u already have!!!!

Even if u didnt have 308s (ie had 280s as used on petrol mk5s 1.4-1.8 )then all youd need to change would be the carriers, discs and pads!

calipers are indentical on all 5 stud mk4 and 4 & 5 stud mk5 (excl vxr)
