How do I remove the standard CDR500 head unit??

    Hi all,

just got my first Astra... in the form of a 2004 Astravan Sportive.

I have a spare Sony bluetooth/MP3 head unit lying about so I decided to fit it to the van, but I can't seem to get the standard CDR500 out!

I'm usually good at removing head units but this one won't budge... I've removed the 4 allen key grub screws from the front, and I have then inserted 4 correct sized screwdrivers down the holes until I felt them 'push past' some clips but its not moving a single bit! I have been really pulling on the CD slot to try to get it out which cant be good... any suggestions?

Also, the van appears to have factory fitted steering wheel controls that operate the head unit. Is there any way to retain these for use with my sony BT2700 head unit? Not too fussed if its not possible but it would be nice.

    Thanks!

I just used appropriate removal keys.

Maybe the latch things have broken off? Give it a yank & a wiggle. Remove glovebox & get your hand at the rear to push from there. I've had to do that before. I didn't use screwdrivers though, i used the proper keys.

    Got it!

got some of the cheap removal tools from Halfrauds and with a bit of wiggling it came out.

    Cheers

Sometimes the tabs that lock the stereo in can get pushed out locking it in even more rather than releasing it. You need to make sure you push the keys (or screwdrivers) in at a angle towards the outside of the stereo

Looking at the diagrams your headunit will take steering wheel controls with the correct adaptor
