    Engine removal and re-fitting

I have a replacement engine which I am going to fit to my car over the next few days.

I have disconnected and unplugged everything up unto the gearbox and I'm just wondering if people recommend I remove the engine and gearbox together, then fit the gearbox to the new engine outside the car, or just disconnect the gearbox from the old engine inside the bay and swap engines.
Any clues as to which is easier? It's an x18xe1 if that makes much difference...

    Cheers!
