How to tell which Op-Com package is right for me?

    Hi,

I am looking at getting an Op-Com diagnostic tool. The only issue is having never bought one of these things before certain aspects are getting confusing.

Having read these forums I see a lot of you have bought from eBay UK, specifically easybid2000. But going through his listings

    http://stores.ebay.com/easybid2000/_...4.l1513&_pgn=1

it appears he doesnt have the Op-Com device at the moment.

    Then there is another website

    http://www.auobd2.com/opcom-op-com-2...FQvabgod1WNJdg

But at the bottom they go on about something about upgrading to the latest 2010 software will damage the device (no idea how!).

    Then there is this one

    http://www.x-electronic.com/ProductD...oductID=100160

which doesnt come with a CD, which is not an issue if the software is available for download somewhere.

Could someone please fill in some gaps for me and set me straight on what I need/want? I live in Australia and when this thing gets to me I want it to work right off the bat and not have to f**k around sending it somewhere or trawling the net looking for a software version that works.

Would appreciate a definitive Op-Com purchasing guide if such thing exists!

Thanks in advance for any replies/help provided.

    Graham

    Thanks LADmachining,

I Couldnt find Op-Com on there, and heir Vaux-Com unit is 640 pounds. I was hoping to spend considerably less than that. Most people mention they get their Op-Coms for 30 - 50 pounds on eBay.

The difference is that Vaux-Com is a decent piece of software that has technical support and backup. It will always have much more functionality than Opcom, and is far far less likely to do any damage.

Opcom is a chinese/romanian/hungarian cracked pirated version of Vaux-com
A cheap cheap dodgy counterfeit copy.

Saying all that, it does do a number of things well enough, and is cheaper than some dedicated code readers etc.

My advice - if you value your car and have the money - go Vaux-com

I'd just buy any op-com off ebay. it doesn't matter what version the firmware and software is as you can download it and update to the latest.

    Thanks Fraggle,

Where do you get firmware and software updates from and which are the latest?

    Coo,

Would love to endorse an official product with genuine end user support etc, but as the car is only worth 6K aussie a Vaux-Com unit is 1/6 the value of the car and I just cant justify that.

    I know what you mean....
Vaux-com could have such a big market if they dropped the price, I certainly reckon they would make more by selling more...

I know that if Vaux-com was around £100...I would have chosen that over the opcom i did buy

Apologies, had no idea I was linking to anything illegal! Where did I go wrong, to prevent me from making the mistake again?
