if you describe the faults your friend is getting maybe someone will be able to point you in the right direction rather than you sieving through all the wiring diagrams.

the warning lights flash on/off he took it to an auto electrician and he said that it was more than likely a broken wire or dodgy connection,so all we need is to find out what coloured wire goes where........

You don't explain what your problem is,as in what wire goes to where.
I have just written to haynes as how totally useless their electrical diagrams are ,still waiting a reply.

Diagrams aren't alot of good on the MK5 especially when you don't have the rest to link to them. Because most of the cars canbus i'd expect the warning lights to to be on that system and you to have alot of other problems

you do realise there is a million wires from behind the clocks and most of them are controlled by the CASNBUS system so it will be all low and high can cables.

if its an intermittent fault then its more than likely to do with the dials or CIM module themselves.

for example the clocks send a signal to the underbonnet fuse box to turn on the feed for the indicators, so if your indicators come on randomly then its not a loose wire, its a dodgy control module or nackered clocks.

if you tell me what the problem is, i can try and locate roughly the problem but i'm going to put money on it, its got something to do with the clocks or CIM.
