    fake flashing alarm led 12v

picked up one of these from halfords for my last car but never got round to fitting it, so thinking about fitting it to the coupe.

am i best of fitting it to the current red led in the hazzard switch or wire it in to the deadlock wire so once its locked the led will flash,

if the car was deadlocked and not used for a week would this drain the battery or not really use and more current then the standard alarm does

    thanks

if fitting to the original is there a better way to access the wires then removing the centre console, and were would i pick up the wires and what colour would they be

I wouldn't want to wire it to the factory one, also it won't work off the deadlock. Just take the power to a permenment live and earth to a ignition live

i found 2 spare positions on the fuse board (perm. and ignition live) and just put a couple of spade connectors on the end of the wires. and it won't drain the battery, mine was left for over a week over xmas and started straight away. leds draw such a small current it'd take weeks for it to drain

if it's wired straight off ignition switch then it'll only flash with ignition on. you need a permanent live and ignition live so that when the ignition is on the 2 lives cancel each other out and when the ignition is off the ignition live becomes earth

ok no offence but the ignition turns on when you start the car so if theirs only 2 wires you haven't wired it to the ignition. not saying i dont believe you got it working but just not the way you described.

heares a quote from maplins website relating to and almost identical product on how to do what paul asked
"Connect the negative side of the led to a ground in the car and the positive side to pin 87a on an automotive relay, then connect pin 85 to a ground in the car and pin 86 to the accessory wire."
if it ant broke, don't fix it.....mod it! MK4 flip keys £13.99
