1.7 dti no power, boosting but no boost

    Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone can help me or point me in the general direction.

W reg Astra 1.7 Dti, Izusu engine

    No Fault Codes

    Turbo problem

The turbo will spool up but thats about it, the boost doesnt do anything, well it doesnt go into the engine thats for sure.

I got the car under the impression that the turbo had let go, so i changed the turbo, no difference.

The original problem was diesel leaking into the sump and causing the oil level to rise and causing alot of smoke.

So, that problem was rectified but the issue with no boost remains.

I chexked the vacuum from the pump on the back of the altenator and it seems to be a good vacuum, ( only visual checks) this then supplies the waste gate actuator solenoid (not sure if thats the correct name) and i get absolutly no vacuum coming out so i changed the solenoid for a known good one and this was exactly the same, good vacuum going in, nothing coming out.

    Any help is appreciated

    Paul

You could always try blocking the wastegate vacuum pipe, (pull it off the boost controller and plug it) that way the wastegate should remain shut, this will eliminate the turbo and egr, if so then you'll need a new boost controller, or you could leave it plugged, mine hits 21 psi with it plugged :P But only at high revs, anything up to 3000rpm is fine.

thanks for the reply, i have no vacuum coming out of the wastegate control solenoid at the moment anyway, i have even run it with the vac pipes disconnected and it makes no difference at all.
Blocked the EGR today, no difference.

If im thinking right if theres no vacuum then the turbo should be boosting continuously.

yep thats right the wastegate is vac operated via the boost control solinoid under the edu unit
is the wastegate free and not stuck open?
does the intercooler pipe go hard when revving the engine?

    Hi,

The turbo does boost but it doesnt transfer any of that boost to the engine, well thats what it feels like.
The car will drive well and rev to approx 4500 rpm (limiter) but there is no distinctive turbo "boost", I mean you dont feel it kick in at all.
It will rev out in each gear and goes as fast top end as what it did previously, it just doesnt get there as quick as it used to.

The waste gate is free and i can move it by hand, although there is resistance due to pusshing against the spring & diaphram in the actuater.

The turbo pipes go hard and if i remove the pipe from the intercooler then i can feel it boosting and if i rev it then i can feel alot more boost.

Actually now im writting this im wondering if there is something in the inlet manifold or throttle body that is restricting the airflow as opposed to it actually being a turbo related fault.

Il look into that tomorrow. Is there any sort of butterfly flap or similar that i should be looking for?

    Thanks again for the advise

Had opcom on it today and the boost control solenoid is regestering 0% all of the time. If i activate it using opcom then it switches from 5.1% to 95 or 96%, when it is at 96% the actual noise from the turbo disappears ( as if it has been switched off! ) but the car still responds exactly the same.

Hi steve, already done that, there was a minimal amout of oil in there, maybe a tablespoon full and the inside of the intercooler is shiney and clean.

Will play around with it some more tomorrow and will post any new findings.

What does opcom say the actual boost amount is?

Could the map be faulty? Have you tried disconnecting the maf?
