    1.6 8v Oil Sump?

Done a oil change for the first time since owning the car and when i took off the sump plug there was thread off the sump round it and sum sort of hard gunk? anyway i put plug back on and now i have a oil leak and the plug doesn't tighten is it the plug i need or sump??. I was wonderin if a 1.8/2.0litre sump would fit as i can get 1 from scrappys tomorrow? Cheers

would appear that someone has stripped the sump thread on a previous oil change. you could try cutting a new thread, but you may have to ultimately replace the sump with another 8v one

You can repair the sump in situ, you need a hand adjustable reamer to open up the existing sump plug hole and then tap in a new thread. The sump is about 3/4 inch thick so plenty of metal, go slow with plenty of grease to stop any swarf going into sump.

Have done two of these now, takes about an hour

The boss the plug screws into may be that thick, but the rest of it is no thicker than any of the body panels (1.2-1.5mm).

A 1.8/2.0 8v sump wont fit as those engines are big-blocks, a 1.4 8v sump should do though.
