    What's this? Help please :(

    Hi,

I posted a question last night about a funny smell over the battery area, looked in daylight after i drove home from work and saw the thing with little bits of smoke coming off and giving out a burning smell.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

I am about as useless with cars as anyone so sorry for lack of info mate. The thing in the picture is just down from the ECOTEC engine cover.

Looks like youve got oil leaking onto the exhaust manifold and its just burning off. I would expect something like a rocker gasket causing the leak

its the rocker gasket gone and oil drips onto the heat shield and burns off causeing the smoke.

Thankyou for identifying the problem. I really wouldn't feel doing a job that big as im sure i'd **** something up. How much would a garage charge for a job like this?

Id expect £50-£100 depending on the amount of work needed, and the garage you go to.

Cam cover gasket is an hours work at best, allowing for a few tea breaks. Get some degreaser and a toothbrush to clean it all properly, and take as long as you need to.
