Sill women forgot to put her handbrake on nd her car hit mine, quick question!

    Ok. Quick version:

Parked my car outside a shop on a hill. Came out of shop to find red rover nestled nicely in my front bumper!

Cracked headlight mount, bent bumper and nice scuff. Also bonnet out of line.

Will be givin her the quotes I got later nd its around £450.

When i was on my way home i came to the top of a hill and needed to pull out onto another road so, put the handbrake on but it wouldnt hold. Basicaly i was rolling backwards with the handbrake up asmuch as i could.

Now this has never been a problem and have stopped on this hillbefore so my question is,.., could her car hittin mine has done any damage to my handbrake? Could it have stretched or something???

    Any help appreciated

With the damage mentioned no, given your later experience maybe your car ran into hers.

you could just use a Long 10mm socket to do it up from inside the car

Unless it's ripped the lining off the rear shoes from the shunt?.. Very unlikely but might be worth taking your rear drums off and checking

All you need is... A jack, jack up the rear wheels off the floor, your wheel brace from the boot, take the wheels off, and a T30 torx screwdriver, once you have the wheels off you'll see the drum, take to T30 screws out, take the drums off and you'll see your shoes, check that the friction lining is on each shoe (2 shoes each side) if that's okay, then it'd be worth getting a flat head screwdriver and you'll see a kind of bar between the 2 shoes, with a cog looking thing on thread, adjust this until the drum will go on but has a small amount of resistance, this will give you a brilliant handbrake and better braking effort. It's a little better than just adjusting underneath the handbrake in my opinion

Have you got rear disks or brake drums ? , If it has disks theres a chance the cable is stretched then you maybe able to adjust it as dannysport18 has described, or failing that the cable has snapped in which case you have to replace it obviously
