    Astra Mk5 1.7 CDTI whistling noise 1500 - 2000 rpm

    Hi All.

As the title suggests, I have a whistling when accelerating between 1500 - 2000 RPM. I notice it when its cold and seams to disappear when warm. have had a new turbo, alternator and radiator.

    Any ideas????

    Thanks Josh

That will be at the point that the Turbo is starting to spool up .. Is it excessively loud ? & when you say New Turbo, is this Brand New ? or Second user ?
You can here most Turbo's start to spool & again some louder when cold .. If it was really noisy when warm, that would be more worrying .. but without hearing it passing judgment is very difficult ...
I would say it is not a split hose seeing as it seems to cease when warm ....

I take it that it is not smoking badly & using lots of oil ??

Thanks, no not smoking or using oil. The turbo was fitted by an Opel dealer in Germany, as I broke down on my way home back in October. Thought it would have been it spooling, but i'm still a bit nervous after the big bill last year.

    Thanks again.

I have the same problem with my 1.9dth turbo. I suddenly appeared, never had it before. Also no oil use, no performance loss, no extra smoking. I thought my turbo was almost broken but when I hear your story is seems a bit strange as you have got a new turbo.

My only thought other than turbo is inlet manifold as mine has quite a bit of induction noise about 2k rpm, this normal? Plus also sounds fairly quiet until you hit about 3k rpm and then you defo know its a diesel!
