    Gsi Idling Problem

Hi everyone, looking at buying a MK4 Gsi. The only problem is that the car has got an idling problem. The guy says this, "Every so often the revs will dip up and down, I don"t think it will be an expensive problem to correct". Is this true?

    Thanks Dan

as above pal , does sound like afm , i would say nothing major anyways also make sure there is no splits in the vacuum pipe and everthing is connected properly , you could work on him on price over this but all in all sounds cheap easy repair to me .

id say afm is your best bet mate
looking at between £100 and £140 depending where you can source one from.
or even try cleaning it as said above.
try blagging him down by £100 quid for a new afm.

Could need to clean the afm or throttle body. I would use this as a bargaining tool. Knock a good few quid off due to a running issue, yet a cheap fix for yourself.

Issue is very common, and would blag more than £100 off it. could be afm, coil pack, plugs, boost solenoid blah blah blah..... Just in idea how to put it
GSi....boosting a' ower yer honda CTR, Vtec this!

hi mate,i used to get this every so often but i used to get the coolant light come on at the same time..i changed from a cone filter too a 1.9 cdti air box,i fitted a forge valve instead of the stock valve and also at the same time i got rid of the baileys dump valve..all in the space of a week so i could't say what it was causing it but ever since i have never had the idle issue!!over a year now.....(my money was on the baileys tho?).hth.
