    Wasted day out

Well went to stoke to look at this gsi that sounded to good to be true and it was, the garage said it came with all the reciepts and yes he was right, all for problems with oil in the header tank and its still there, real thick gunky oil so after a few upset words in the show room to the bloke for a wasted day out i got refunded my petrol money and came home bk in the civic so the hunt goes on...

however theres a gsi 5miles away from me with 90,000 miles on, needs timing belt doing but its standard completely and nice and straight, has a tow bar which needs removing, a steering multi lock bracket that needs removing and a new wiper motor and ash tray as it doesnt stay closed and a new mirror switch as the left right thing has snapped (which is nothing)

he said theres a little smell of oil on idle sometimes and he said it could be turbo but been told it could be the gasket, so i dunno wot to do, is it worth a px, he said he has no money so cant give me anything but its only standard and close by so i feel tempted but the oil smell worrys me

Me and my dad had that once. travelled about 100 miles to see a celica that was "to good to be true" the pictures did it justice but when we got on the forecourt was a nail all the paint was peeling off around the windows and all 4 tyres were bald. chap offered to respray it for us for £400 if we bought it!!!!! what a cheek!
so like you we gave him a few choice words!!!

Do you think that some places/forecourts/garages/salesmen think were dumb!?

to answer your question though. The right cars find you. you don't have doubts about the one you should buy!!!!
    I'd avoid it!

On the bright side, you got your fuel money refunded, so not a total loss.

Least you didn't allow yourself to be conned.

The mirror switch breaking must be common. i had to do mine when i got it, cost a few quid.

Oil smell could be start of tubby failure, try a restrictor bolt in it before buying a new unit, or simply a leaky rocker cover gasket, again common and i had to do mine also when i bought it.

And again i was all set to buy a type r, but at last minute my gsi came up for sale so bought it. Cheers, you getting rid has reinforced that i made the right choice
