    Zlet ' ticking' noise

Have a ' ticking ' noise coming from the engine - more noticeable when idling and doesn't seem to speed up with engine revs. Seems to come from cambelt end of engine but a lot of parts down there ! Been doing it for about 6 months now, no smoke, fluid loss or lack or performance although mpg seems to have dropped slightly. Can't tell where it originates from apart from under the bonnet . Engine is standard z20 let , reconditioned unit from Vauxhall, has 10,000 miles on it, run in properly, oil changed twice and no heavy use as yet . Brand New turbo , dy model also fitted along with fitting kit ( from Vauxhall ) 10.000 miles ago. Sorry to be so vague but anyone any ideas ? Car is a standard SRI Turbo 52 reg .Thanks.

I believe airflow sensor of maf sensor, common worry but they all do it, put your ear close to the air intake pipe close to the throttle body and you will hear it stronger

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Does it only do it when the engine is cold?
Could just be that the manifold nuts need to be re torqued. If they have been torqued properly then it would of only have been a 7or 8Nm and when the manifold expands and contracts a few times then these can work loose causing it to blow which in turn can cause a ticking noise.
I would say that this is the 1st place to start, just knip the nuts up a bit and take it from there.
Post back with ur findings and we'll see if we can help you further.
    Paul.

I would.say it the fuel tank vent valve, think thats what it is, when it next does it put your ear on the little black unit at the back of the airbox. If it is that then its normal.

    +1.

Usually located near the top of the airbox, IIRC it is locked in place using a lug on the top end of the airbox. Stick your head there and see if is that.
