    Quick bit of help Please

hi guys i have a 1.3 cdti astra and recently there is a rattling type noise coming from near the aux/alternator belt, the noise gets louder when i use the headlights and heated rear window.

does this point to the aux belt tensioner on its way out???

    cheers guys

    Your diagnosis is probably right,
and the belt tensioner bearing is possibly worn,
as a temp measure sqirt wd40 around , see if it quietens,
It could of course be a noisy alternater bearing.

cheers bri, ive tried the wd40 trick and its looking like the belt tensioner. its hard to access the tensioner on the 1.3 strimmer engine though as its under the engine mount.
it used to quiet down when the engine got warm but now its noisier than ever all the time.

    thanks for your help

You might be able to get at it from underneath Brett,

usualy its pretty easy, and a common failure on most diesels

Its easy to drop the engine mount,
all you have to do is jack it up via the sump and a block of wood, unloosen the bolts, an remove,
I don't know for sure without looking but you might have to if your replacing the aux belt

had a look today mate and replaced the tensioner but theres still a little bit of noise coming from the alternator, so it seems mine has both a shot tensioner and alternator.
access was very good though i just removed the air filter box and had loads of space to work.

    again thanks for the help

does anyone know where to get an alternator at a good price, i was thinking about a re-con one.
