    diagnosing valve stem seals

    ok guys, my mate got a let. and on start up he gets tad blue smoke (hardley anything) its only done it couple of times since he bought it 8 months ago..

    how wud u no if its seals, turbo, rings..

    i picked up some spark plugs from a sound guy on here earlier and we were talking about this.

    he told me if you take off the exhaust manifold you can see the valves.
    if they are coated in bits of black shit then it means the seals are gone.
    ideally they should be brown

    maybe give that a go? dunno if whacking the turbo off is a viable option for you but its worth a shot?
