    mk4 smelly AC!!

    i have a very bad smell coming from the AC vents in my mk4 astra 1.4
    and its been getting worse since wed
    it smells a bit like burning clutch mixed with something rotten
    i can still taste it now even without useing the ac all the way to work and frezzing my ass off. it makes you feel physicaly ill
    iv removed the pollen filtter and thats fine
    its not coming from my engine bay and im not rideing the clutch
    how do i get rid off it???

    Id be interested to find this outas sometimes I get something similar. like someone stuffed cheese in a vent
    So Far ZLEH, M32, FMIC, Top Hat, CDTi box, Thermobolic intake gasket, De cat, alloy rad, GSi bumper, Coilovers not long off a map now lol

    Check around the scuttle panel area mate, for blockages. Usually what causes it.

    My old Corsa did that.. Took it down to Halfrauds and got them to recharge the aircon for me and they gave me a free air cleaner... Idea is you pop it in the rear foot well and click it on as your aircon is running on full and on recirculate and it clears out the bad smells... if it is just bad smells that is, if its something mechanical then I have no idea lol

    Worth a go for a cheap fix imo if you cant find anything mechanical, worked for me

    theres a halfords just down the road so might get some at lunch
    anyone know if theres a way to bodje the ac controls so that they work without the ignition on? that way i can leave it on will im in work

    The ac needs the engine to run to work unfortunately

    Would a change to the pollen filter help this too ?

    It may help as if it is old then they can get caked in bacteria which will cause a smell

    Check for any blockages around the scuttle panel.

    Change the pollen filter.

    If it still smells, use the Comma Air Con cleaner.

    i forgot to check the scuttle pannle but i did buy some comma cleaner at lunch and set it off
    strong stuff
    not sure if its woked yet its airing out now

    it cant be the pollen filter because i dont have one at the moment
