    Engine drama!

Problems started with the cold weather, first off the starter motor froze (i think) so the car wouldnt start and i killed the battery with trying.
the cold subsided and after getting a jump the car ran no probs apart from a slight tick when cold, the following day i was on my way to work and the car was jumping and spluttering, this was water in the petrol from the -18degree nights!(again my own thoughts)
this then only started happening around 3k revs and the car wouldnt go past 60mph in 5th gear, but easily in 4th, got to work and the car sat for 11 hours then started no probs, chucked in £20 petrol got on the motorway got up to 60mph tried to accelerate and the car died.
the engine turned over like the belt had gone, got it home had a look and the belt was fine, tried turning over again and sounded like the starter had went but it wouldnt bump and ruined the battery, charged it and the car almost fired. then started to click like it was a flat battery
got myself a new battery but it still just clicks like its a dead battery.
been told possibly the solonoid but i fear its a lot worse.

sorry for the excedeengly long thread but trying to give as much info as possible.

any thoughts or help is apprieciated.

    cheers craig

Looks like i was right to fear the worst.
timing belt is shredded, engine is a goner.

so question this time is where to buy a replacement?
would a 1.8 or 1.4 drop straight in?

before anybody mentions it i would love an let but my wallet isnt quite fat enough and i need the car back soon as.

    thanks again

What exactly is damaged within the engine? Most likely just valves?

And without major faffing, you need an engine of the same model, a 1.4/1.8 or other would need way more work (ECU swap, loom swap etc.).

tbh i wouldnt know where to start with checking exactly what was wrong.
and dont really want to fork out for somebody to tell me when surely it would be just as easy to get a replacement?

i dont know enough about cars to be sure though.
