Question Making a new key & avoiding Vaux prices. How would this work?

The gf only has 1 key for her Corsa. No doubt Vaux charge bend-over prices for a second.

I have opcom & know it can be used to program keys & i believe that you don't need the car key/code to do this with the Corsa C, unlike some other Vaux for e.g.

    The plan was to:

Buy the remote part from eBay: such as http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-CORSA...#ht_500wt_1156 for e.g.

But this still means i need the transponder, the connecting plastic bit & a blank blade (to be cut) that is part of the connecting plastic bit: such as http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-CORSA...#ht_1437wt_905 except no transponder in that link

There is one in this link: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-CORSA...#ht_2610wt_905 but the blade is wrong & it's the only one i found on eBay.

As i'm now going to be back at work, it's going to be some time before i can get in town & see.

Question is, will a place like Timpsons have the bit i need that i showed in the 2nd link there?
Blank blade, which also attaches to...
    ...plastic edging, which contains ...
    ...transponder.

It's been some time since i've had a key cut & i don't remember them having those sort of keys in from memory, but i never paid much attention.

Or do they not do it & it's going to be a case of keeping an eye on eBay?

    blanks?

Full key as in, key, remote & transponder? If so then that's fine as that's what will be needed anyway.

Chaps on Corsa C don't seem to know.

Anyone wise to this? I thought i'd be able to buy the required bits off eBay but it seems not.

Kev, what year is the corsa

if its an early model with the traditional shape key blade then you're best off getting a blank and having a local key place cut it to shape based on your current one.

If its a later model with the flat type of blade then you can buy a new one precut based on your key code and a new transponder chip for just short of £20

both just need to be matched with a remote - used or new and opcom'd up

another option if its just for a spare is what id go for and just get a non-remote type key - precut to your key code on car pass - comes complete with a transponder inside the key housing so all u need to do is opcom it up

having difficulty finding all the links on ebay at the mo but if u find out what the current key looks like ill do what i can

take a pic of the blade side on if u can

EDIT: if u can grab her car pass and check what the key code is.... obviously dont tell us... but just let us know the prefix letter... S/Z/H for instance

    Kev, try this seller

Im sure this is the one ive seen in the past although no Vxl ones suitable currently listed

    http://shop.ebay.co.uk/www_keysinthepost_com/m.html

    Options:

Pre-cut transponder key (no remote) - just key in door to access

    pre-cut blade *early type*

    pre-cut blade *late type*

blank blade - cut yourself at locksmith using your current key *early/late type*

All options bar the first can be teamed up with any suitable remote - used or old

Thanks muchly for the input. I was hoping you'd reply as you were the one who told me i didn't need to go to Vaux for the car pass on the Corsa.

Corsa is a 2002 year on an "02" plate.

I've asked the missus whether she's bothered about the remote for the 2nd key & she says she'd prefer to have this function.

    Pics as requested:

The number on the back of the blade (if it means anything) is "770".

I'd get you the coding for the car, but the laptop i need for the job is my dad's & he's using it to do some of his photoshop college coursework, so it may be anything up to the weekend before i could get the code.

Hope this answers everything (bar the prefix lettering obviously).

aha just remembered you dont have the car pass!

now i know you dont need the pass for the immob security code on the C, cant recall if u can "read" the key code from the OBD port without the car pass however....

id need to check that sometime myself, will try n do it tomoz if i remember

if we cant read the key code then youll have to get a blank and have it cut at a locksmith or somewhere.....

    Therefore:

    * £10 or thereabouts for a fresh brand new key UNCUT and a new virgin transponder chip

    * Whatever it costs at a locksmith to copy your existing key

    * cost of used/new remote fob

    Opcom it and you're done!

IF we can get the key code without the car pass then you can save on the keycutting costs and have it all done online, having said that though, and looking at the pic above i wouldnt bother.

Id just go for the method outlined above

Heres what id get - you will have an S series key based on the pic above

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-CORSA...item255efc20c4

and any used remote off ebay and ur laughing

Ahhh, many thanks. That's the sort of link i was looking for. Couldn't find that type blade on eBay yesterday, certainly not with the transponder either.

    Thanks again!!
