    Weak Horn, how to test?

Car has just passed it's MOT this morning but the horn is weak and the tester blew it a number of times, I really expected him to fail it.

Anyway can I remove it connect two wires to it and directly to the battery to see if the horn is at fault or if the problem lies elsewhere.

Also wonder if I should contact Vauxhall about the recall on the horn issue (i.e. horn not working with lights on) although mine is OK as they probably don't know where the car is now.

    Car is a 2006 SXi 1.7 diesel.

Very often this a poor earth contact, same thing happens with lights, they work, but are rather dim.
