    SRI whats in the name

    Hi Guys,

As i`m aware SRI stand for Sports Rated Injection. This to me means that the SRI should be a slightly sporty trim in terms engine performance. In past Vauxhalls this was true, but i can't help noticing that with the Astra J SRI is just another Trim level and thats it, no engine enhancement at all. I can understand why vx have done this, what with the new trim level VXR and them reintroducing the GTC there no need for a third sporty level. But rather than continueing the name would'nt it just be better to ditch the name rather than carry on having it, as i do feel its rather rediculious having a 1.4 87 BHP SRI. Its insulting the name, its like vx creating a more hardcore trim level than VXR and then having an 87 BHP VXR. Stupid!

SRI has only been a trim level for a while, in the Astra G the later 1.8 SXi were just the same engine as the 1.8 SRi! people just think SRi is better so they put a bit more on the price tag for it!

Dont you feel a bit cheated though, knowing that your more expensive car has the engine as an sxi?

you could say that about different marks aswell thow.

the 1.2, X12XE in the Corsa B is pretty much the same X12XE in the C and D. the bhp by ratio went down over all 3 marks because each different model was heavier!

They're not reintroducing the GTC at all in the UK. GTC is the name for the 3 door SportHatch in Europe, the old sport model was GTE. There is still word of the Bi-Turbo CDTi GSi 5 door.

The SRi also had 5 stud hubs and larger brakes.

You can only get the 1.6Turbo and the 2.0CDTi in SRi trim and above though with regards to the J

Not true. The 117bhp engine was the earlier X18XE1 and this was replaces with the 123bhp Z18XE engine with VVT. These were available in SRi, SXi and Design trim in the H.

As said, the SRi is a trim level and has been for some time now. They do still try to make it sportier in many ways. In the case of the J you get the bucket style sports seats, leather steering wheel, lowered and uprated sports suspension, alloys and dark tinted lights. I agree though it is a bit of a pi$$take to have such a woefully underpowered engine in such a heavy car and it's diluted the name a bit, but amongst the Vauxhall community, the SRi is still respected as a sports model IMO.

Bye bye VXR Castle Combe Edition - because it's done more laps of Castle Combe than most Bergs have of the Ring
