My car failed its MOT the other day on a track rod end ball joint failure.
My mechanic told me to get a new Track Rod End (TRE) and he would fix it for a tenner and pass the beast.
Now my mechanic told me to get the “Nearside or left” TRE.
I rang up Vauxhalls and the parts guy wanted me to confirm if it was either the ‘inner’ or ‘outer’ TRE. And he said if it was the inner one I’d need to tell him if my steering rack was Delphi or TRW!
So I rang my mechanic up for some guidance. And he just said it’s the Nearside, outer one you want.
So I just ordered an outer one from the web for £14.55 (Febi Bilstein) all in with next day delivery.
My question is; can someone put up a picture showing what these TRE’s look like when in place on the car?
What job do they do; and why are they called inner and outer?? And is ‘nearside’ synonymous with ‘outer’ when talking about TRE’s?
Sorry for all the Q’s, but I am in the pursuit of knowledge and AOC is my friend
