    chip and remap prices??

Im thinking of having my car chipped and remapped.

    its a 2002 Astra 1.8 SRi

Could people who've had theirs done previously give me an esimated price of what the costs are roughly and also the gain in BHP you get from having it done??

I've noticed the Chipped units are avaliable on Ebay, are these any good or are they just cheap nasty knock-offs

    Cheers

    Matt

Chipping is the old method where they remove a chip from the ECU and then replace it with a modified version.

Re-mapping is where the ECU 'map' is downloaded from the ECU via the diagnostics port, modified then uploaded back into the car.

Re-mapping a non turbo car will see around 8bhp, but with much better drivability. Expect to pay around £300.

with the 1.8 you wont get much gain but i have heard ppl say it makes the car drive so much better. and pulls longer in the rev range.

To me, its worth it, Won't see much gain in the horse power side of things, but torque will be improved a good bit, hence it pulling better and better drivability.

I agree with Scoop, if you ignore any extra power that is claimed, then you will be pleased with the way the car drives.

But expect the pub figures and you will be disapointed.

i looked into a company and its about £297 and you get 8bhp. better off getting a panel filter or induction kit. then getting a custom exhaust and manifold fitted for that sort of money.
And I would avoid those ebaychips they seriously f**K up your ECU.
