    Spark plugs again

    yay - another thread on AOC about spark plugs

    The idling problems I had with my car seem to have gone now, has been ok for the last 3 weeks or so. However I am now back to having problems with boost again. Keeps cutting out when on full boost. Pretty sure its the plugs as had the same problem a couple of times.
    Question is why does my car kill plugs?
    So far..

    NGK Iridiums - lasted around 2 years at a guess
    Cossie plugs (decent champion ones, not the cheapo ones) lasted around 12 months
    VXR Platinum - most expensive out of all of them, lasted less than 6 months.

    Question is, do I buy a single VXR plug and replace just the faulty one (most likely cylinder 3), or go back to Iridiums?
    Does anyone know the part number for the VXR plugs. The NGK number, not Vauxhall part number.

    all cars kill plugs if the plug is not up to the job. A plug is a consumable item so will erode in time. If your car is mapped and you want the plugs to last then you need Iridiums.

    2 main types availablke are NGK and Denso. In my tests over 210k of Zlet and ZLEH stage 3 driving I have found that the Denso outlast the NGK by at least twice the mileage. That is why I spent almost £1000 on loads of Densos recently. I bought loads to get the price right down

    In my cars they last at least 50k, need regapping at about 30k when the gap will be a bit big due to the earth wearing away

    So my recommendation is to get new Denso Iridiums, I have a thread in the for sale section, you can get them elsewhere but no where as near as cheap as I have them

    Just noticed you are in Banbury, I can call in next week and show you them if you like

    Might have to go back to them then. Was told that Platinum is harder wearing than Iridium and should last longer.

    Could be the pack, but each time I have changed the plugs it has been because of the same problem (bad boost). So think that will be the issue again. New plugs has solved it the last 3 times.

    Just can't see why they have died so quickly. I do on average 10k a year.

    So Iridium = 20kish
    cossie = 10k ish
    VXRs = less than 5k.

    Missed your last comment before jalfrezigazee, if your passing i'll take a set off you. Or post them if you want?

    The coil pack is a sensible suggestion, each time you fit new plugs you are helping to mask a weak coil pack possibly.

    What time you driving up? Don't normally get home till around 6ish.

    Can wait till Wed, been putting up with it for a couple of weeks now, another week won't make a difference lol. Just means being sensible as it drives perfect on low boost.
