Unhappy No more Astra Coupe in BTCC!

Just seen it announced on the news section of BTCC.net, the Astra Coupe will race no more in the BTCC.

Martin Johnson who raced the car in 2009/2010 with Boulevard Racing has sold it onto a competitor in Dubai who plans to enter it in the UAE touring car series.

It marks the end of an era really, which has seen the Coupe compete in BTCC since 2001. The car which was sold was the original coupe which was driven by Yvan Muller.

Big shame. My little lad loves spotting them in the races!

Have to agree it's an end of an era.

Boulevard Racing should get the Giovanardi or Neal Astra Sport Hatch with a NGTC engine for the 2011 to keep the Griffin and Astra flying in the BTCC.

The Griffin will be kept on this year in BTCC.

Eurotech who were behind the Pirtek Racing team who ran Andy Jordan in 2010 are going to be running Jeff Smith in a Veccy NGTC for 2010. Not sure if Jordan will be resigning again for another year.

Would be nice to see the MK5 return, however have heard that its not the most favourable Vauxhall out there in terms of shape/aerodynamics.

It's a shame if that's true about the MK5 not being the favourable Vauxhall.

Andrew Jordan should be back he drove the wheels off the Veccy and had some great results in it.

Watching the Veccy isn't the same as seeing an Astra flying round the track.

No, that is true. As said, I would love to see a MK5 out there again.

I would assume the reasoning behind the MK5 not being the most favourable is due to its aerodynamics. Take a look at the shape of say the Veccy, the Cruze, the Lacetti, all big cars with long bonnets and boots, then look at the MK5. But then I suppose the Civic is a good car, along with the Focus. Although I should imagine alot of that is down to improvements on the aerodynamics and the engines used.

its true altho i think there was something else wrong with the mk5 not just aerodynamics after all like you say the focus and civic seem to do ok

The MK5 being slow was down to the car having the aerodynamics of a brick.
