RC Car engine seized, fix or replace?

iv got a nitro RC car that i havnt used for about 5 years so i got it down from the loft the otherday and started to take it apart as it was filthy and covered in fuel etc, on stripping down the engine i noticed the pull started wouldnt pull so i took it off and tried to turn the engine by hand only to find the piston is seized, am i best just replacing the engine as it never really run that well anyway?

can i fit any engine to it or does it have to be a Kyosho one?

iv only ever had this one so not that genned up on em you see.......

remove the engine and soak it in some petrol or mdodel fuel it might free it up or you could replace the seized parts by taking the engine apart get replacing them. YOu have an OS engine which is a good little thing and most model shops will carry these parts or an be ordered very easily. A replacement engine with pull start could set you back about £60 where are replacement parts about £20 to £30 - I had one of these and the actual case had cracked under the head and it was £13 for a replacement case.

I'm sure AOC member Tone will point you in the righ direction as he races these

TBH you might as well just get a new engine. For the cost of parts + hassle of fitting them.

Just get one with the same exhaust set-up, as some are side and others are rear

Engines are cheap enough mate, around £40 on ebay (used). I can't remember exactly but i'm sure the kyosho engines had different exhaust mountings either front or side, but anyway it was different to most nitro engines. So your best of looking for a Kyosho replacement.

I've got an Alpha Gp by kyosho and i had the same trouble

Kyosho parts are a nightmare to get a hold of. TBH, I'd look at getting a decent GX-15 engine off of ebay. I picked up a GX-25 for £16 a few months back. The GX-15 will fit straigh on there, and has a slide carb so you can position it with the throttle servo easily

Marc, there were different manifolds for Kyosho engines. On the Alpha & Pureten GP's the manifold came off the back and went diagonally to the side them pairs up with a tuned exhaust. On some others it went into a sideways exhaust with a outlet that could be swivelled up or down, then a rubber tube like in the OP's pic.

If you need an RC forum, msuk-forum is very good.
