Assuming you have a Z18XE the temp sensor is at the front of the engine by the cambelt cover

Yep thats the engine i have, is it a common fault then to go? Apart from not giving my a temp reading does the sensor do anything else?

That sensor does the temp guage, fans and ecu for cold start etc. Not heard of it going faulty before

It's a copy of some software that allows you to read and clear fault codes via a computer plugged into you car. You can also do output tests

    Hi Tom
I have a coupe with the same engine,
and especially this weather the temp guage takes an awfull long time to register any temperature,
The car runs well with no problems, heater blowers blow warm air,
but only when the car is ticking over does the guage operate, and reaching eventually 90 degees approx the fans kick in, (does yours??)
    so everything is working correctly.
I have had a few issues with one of my other cars as regards to temp/fans etc, and eventually solved them, but i wont go into that yet,
but for now please take time and listen out for your fans to kick in, but do not let it tick over and overheat, if you suspect the fans not working then the best way to cool the engine down is to run the car steadily for a few miles.
and from there on maybe your problem will be easier to understand.

    bri
