    Temperature Problem?

Hi all, on my brother in laws mk4 astra he has noticed the temp gauge and the heaters are playing up. Basically when the car has warmed up to optimum operating temperature, if he is sat stationary the temp gauge goes to half way and stays their with the heat coming out hot. Yet when he starts driving the temp gauge goes down to nothing and the heat comes out cold? Any body got any knowledge of what the problem could be?

Depends on the engine...mine was £25 for a Z16XE...8v's need the cambelt off for petrol engines so overall are more expensive.

more than likely a 16 valve engine for that reg mate.

and look something like this (16 valve)

or the 8v engine will look similar to this

I reckon its an 8v then mate the engine at the top is identical to my old mk4 which I know was a 16v, and the bottom is identical to his engine.
