    Engine rattle and brake caliper.

    Hi everyone,

I bought my first astra last week a 1.6 16v sport G. I have noticed a rattle coming from the belt area it has 80900 miles so im guessing it hasnt been changed and is due. Does anyone know what i would be expecting to pay? My front right caliper also sticks pretty bad is there a cheap fix for this rather than buying a caliper? Can anyone help please?

Full cambelt kit and waterpump is worth getting changed ASAP if you are unsure.

Caliper sticking - if the pads/discs are low this can make the issue worse as the caliper is moving towards the end of its throw. Garage et-al may be able to give them a clean-up and see how it goes.

At 80900 miles I'd hope it has been changed. The belt and tensioners should be replaced every 4 years or 40,000 miles (which ever comes first). If I was you I'd get a new belt kit and water pump fitted asap.
