    Wiper problems.

I not sure whether it is just the cold that is causing this or whether it is something that others have experienced, but basically my car has been stood since Wed covered in snow and today is the first day it has moved. So I defrosted the car as normal removed the snow from around the wipers and scuttle panel and put of the wipers once the screen was clear, although the first two settings on the wiper don't seem to be working correctly, as they start to move up the screen then stop it's only when you put it on full speed that they move over that screen as normal without stopping.

So what do you guys think? Dodgy wiper stalk? As it can't be the wiper motor, as they are working fine of full speed. May be a relay or wiper stalk fault?

    Thanks in advance

On the way home from work it appears that it's only when you come to turn the wipers off / push the wiper stalk gently to wipe the screen once that you have a problem. So may be a dodgy stalk / connector on the first connector?

So they stop on the screen rather than in the park postion? This always points to a faulty motor

Yeah that's right it's just when you come to stop them that they don't return to the bottom of the screen it is random where they stop.

If it was a faulty motor I would expect them not to be working on the normal wiper cycles too. I've got a spare stalk in the garage that I could try, but if you think it probably points to the motor? I will not bother and change that.

damb it thats two motors ive got to get then .. both on my 51 plate 2.0dti and my 1.7td estate 2000 plate ,

on both if you switch them to intermitent setting the wipers never finish where they are supposed to ,

they stop halfway up screen or in random places but never where they start from , but every time you switch two constant speed there fine

Sounds like the stepper unit playing up, it is possible to take it apart (drill the rivets out) and inspect it. Fixed mine by bending the copper contacts a bit more.
