    Astra queries

1: when i turn the steering wheel when driving slow, ie parking, i can feel/hear a slight "clicking". it doesnt affect the steering but its slightly worrying/annoying. any ideas?

2: recently when ive started the car ive heard "click click start"....tried changing the battery but it did it 3 times in a row this morning, not even sitting long in the cold so im stumped?

any advice or suggestion, where to look on the above would be excellent!

    cheers

1 could be a cv joint on its way out(usually the n/s inner)

2 could be the starter motor stiking a little (check the connections first)

ps ';; its a start, but no promises that i'm right without looking and hearing,

I am pretty sure no.1 is to do with the CIM in the steering column. Mine has always made a clicking noise, but never materialised to anything more.

There is a recall out on all Astras and Zafiras at the moment, in time you will get a letter through explaining what to do. Basically requires Vauxhall to fit a new metal brakcet and modify the wiring slightly.

Had mine done on Saturday, and haven't noticed mine clicking since, probably because I haven't paid much attention to it. I will check tonight to see if it does it, or if the recall work solved the problem.

cheers for moving this...i didnt se the other forums! my bad!

CV had been pointed out before, but i thought they only made noise under acceleration etc like a banging. im hoping its the CIM, going in tomorrow to get it sorted...will be absolutely extatic if thats the problem. The clicking felt quite bad, almost like the wheel was having some resistance.

The starter motor just started normall there now..no clicking just started. new battery so its not that...could it be on its way out?

    thanks for replies!

I don't know much about the cim, perhaps it is that,

BUT You have just mentioned that it feels like its resisting, that sounds to be like a defective cv joint,

    Bri

Ps realy only shows up on a full lock very slow, not at fast speeds

Where does it sound like the clicking is coming from? On mine it was definate that it was inside the car, and was only when turning the wheel at low speeds.

EDIT - have had both CV joints checked several times and never have they been found to be knackered.

yea...it can be felt the whole way through turning...usually turning from left to right.

maybe it is happening at all speeds, just because of road noise/vibrations i cant feel them.

mgodden...it "feels" like somewhere on the columng, but as its all connected it could be anywhere. does the CIM turn with the wheel or does the wheel turn through it if you know what i mean?
