    Not insuring car invalidates NCB?

Mate has insured his car with AF and has just received a letter saying because it was not insured for 2 months (in which time he was not using it) it means he now has no NCB even after 22 years of driving and no claims. Is this normal? How can this be justified? I will say the letter is from aviva who AF obviously got the insurance from so not putting down AF. His quote was obviously with his NCB but surely you still havent claimed and he was driving other vehicles in this time. Thanks for any advice/opinions.

all NCBs are only valid for a short period of time when not in use

this varies from one insurer to another - some maybe a few months, others may be 2 yrs or so.

after that time has elapses then the NCB is lost

you'll be best speaking to *or at least the "mate" in question* needs to speak to the previous insurer and ask how long the NCB remains valid for after their last policy expires

Most Insurers will accept no claims bonus which has expired up to two years before you use it again. We may be able to use no claims bonus which is over two years old, however you must advise us of this at the time of the quotation.
