    Blanking EGR with Coke Can.

My car has been running poorly lately in all this cold weather, rough idle and start up etc.

I blanked the EGR with a piece of an Aluminium Coke can cut in the shape of the original gasket.

Took it for a drive and felt miles better!

So I think I've sorted the problem, but, will the aluminium coke can be suitable enough or would it just disintegrate?

Also, whats your opinion on EGR blanking?

    Cheers

Horses for courses...with the EGR valve inactive, the fuel/air ratio in the engine is not what the ECU thinks it is. There's an arguement that this isn't good for the engine long term, however I don't know anyone who has specifically linked problems with doing this.

On some engines, Vauxhall can disable the EGR on the ECU which is usually cheaper than buying a new one, but more than a blanking plate.

If you get a blanking plate you will need to go to VX to have them disable the egr or it will put the eml on.

atm in running mine with a cut up fosters car between the egr and it still plugged in. Been like this for 10 weeks now and had no problems no error codes related to egr or anything.

I think in the future i will get it blanked properly and dissabled via tech2 just for peace of mind tho.

Yeah was thinking the EML might come on but it didn't in the end.

I think i will get a proper steel blanking point at some point.

Just glad that my car feels like new again

B$llox!!... blanking plate on the egr will not put the eml light on unless it triggers the egr is at fault and if its been blanked then obviously that wouldnt happen

It is best o get vx or a tech2 to wipe the egr off if blanking, mine was £30 to wipe and the blanking plate off ebay £1.50, i do however not that it matters have the egr still bolted to keep the plate down and plugged in.
Some say it damages some dnt, but am sure if someone comes accross that issue they will certainly post there story on here.
