How do you know if some rims will fit your car by looking? Scrap visit tomorrow...

I emailed our local scrap yard to ask if they had any 5 stud 15" steelies in that'd fit a Vaux Astra 51 plate. I emailed Sunday. I guess they either don't check their mail or just haven't bothered to reply.

I've been a few times, but can't say i've ever paid close enough attention as to whether they store these or not.

Would any 15" 5 stud fit my Astra, or is it not quite that simple? (i'm guessing it isn't).

If certain ones will & certain ones wont, then how do i tell whether they'd fit my car without carrying them out the scrappies halfway down the street & then fiddling about jacking the car up etc etc etc?

I'm on half a days holiday from work tomorrow, so could do with knowing for when/if i go down there.

Also, is £10 a tyre change a fair charge? (So basically £40 the lot)

    Simple, but effective lol. Thanks.

How many MK4s came with the above - 5stud 15" steelies? Are my chances slim or were there a fair few engine/trim levels with this?

MK4 SRi came with a 5-stud steel spare

You may find Vectra B's with 15" 5-stud OR definately find Vectra C's with 16" 5-stud steelies

Something that fits be it 15 or 16 inch (pref 15") would do me fine really.

I know you say it's stamped GM on the outside of the rim. Also, i know the tyre is stamped up R15/R16, but is the actual rim itself stamped up in size? I forgot to ask earlier.
Or will i be best taking a tape? Stupid question maybe, but i've never paid that close attention before.

The tyre detail usually shows R15 or R16 for a radial tyre.

The rims will be stamped with the following

    GM 6jx16 ETxx

where 6 is the rim width in inches and 16 is the rim diameter.

You will find this info around the bolt holes

Only Vaux/Saab would be a direct fit.

Oh well scrap visit is no longer on.

Just called & they said they have 3 15" in for the Astra. They do have another one but "its a different style". From that i'm taking it wont or may not fit & 3 will be as good to me as 2 or 1 - no good.

Asked what 16" they have in & fella said not a lot.

So looks like i'll be getting the winter tyres fitted to the standard 16" alloys then.
