    Engine number location

Hi, first post noob here, congrats on a superb forum ("I should know, I've followed a few!" )
I've already benefitted from the knowledge of others as my remote keys' battery died yesterday (not long had the car) and I saw the dread words 'must be fitted within three minutes or the key may need reprogramming' in the owners handbook. I followed the others advice, fitted the new CR2032, inserted key, turned to position 2, pressed the lock button and all is now in ordnung, so thanks muchly!
Anyhoo, like a total novice I didn't check the reg. document until the wedge was exchanged and noted when I did that the engine number simply said NOT KNOWN. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, seeing as this is a very cosmetically tidy, 2-owner Opel Astra estate and think maybe it's had a replacement engine at some point? Whatever, when I send off the reg document I'd like to add the engine number, touble is I can't see the bamstickin' thing! The car is a 1.6 16v petrol and I'd be very grateful if someone could give me a steer as to which part of the engine block to look on for the stamped number please
    Oi'm der famous Eccles!

I'm in Australia, so it's a "Holden Astra", but call it what you will. I've found the engine number, but it's a puzzle; it has (and I quote verbatim):

    X/Z18XE

Which one is it? Z or X? It's a TS City (Astra G) 1.8L, 16V, 5-door Hatchback built Jun 00. Which engine number would it be?
