Hi guys, first post so go easy on me!
For the past 6 months I've been driving an '08 1.7cdti work van, my current circunstances have chanced (redundant!) and having already sold my daily car and returning the van I'm in need of another car or van. I've decided to stick with vans due to the practicality of lugging the bike round (and its a great excuse not to give everyone lifts!)
I'm looking at getting a mk4 van around the 2000 / 2001 era due to costs and I understand there are 3 engines available? The 1.7DTI, the 2.0DI and the 2.0DTI.
Am I correct in thinking that the 2.0DTI was only available in the sportive models?
My next question is with regards to performance and remaps. Based on my assumption that the 2.0DTI is only available in the sportive, we can currently rule this out due to purchase cost (unless I get lucky, or get another job PDQ)
I'd be looking at getting a remap eventually when money is better and based on Celtic figures the 1.7DTI maps to 115bhp/187lbs/ft whereas the 2.0DI maps to 105bhp/190lbs/ft. Would I be better off going for the 1.7DTI? Is it real world quicker or just a number?
I also understand that the 2.0DI does not come with an intercooler - would fitting one along with a remap make any worthwhile gains? I'm not looking to put in a lot of work and getting loads of power (I've got a track car waiting to be finished for that) just looking to make it a little more fun
Finally, the vans in my current price range are in the 120-180k miles bracket. I've heard that the fuel pump can be a worry, but are there any other things to consider?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
