    Stumped. What now???

Hi.Not long had this 1.7dti 03 reg Problems with my temp guage. It does not move. Have read posts regarding stat etc so have changed the stat and coolant temp sensor but still no joy. I have only ever seen it move once (with old sensor) Heaters do work but take a while to heat up. I have noticed that the coolant in header tank starts circulating as soon as I start the car and there is a kind of misfire when the engine is cold but disappears after about 10 miles driving when engine warms up but still no temp guage. I have done pedal test but light just flashes continually so i assume this means there is no fault codes.

Sounds like a thermostat problem if the coolant is circulating straight away...

    Hi,
I think you have tried all the obvious ,
as i did on one of my engine convertions,

I had a no temp guage, and both coolant fans woulds come on imediatly,
I even went to the lengths of changing the clocks to no avail,

and after renewing the coolant ecu,Ts, Thermostat, i was totally at a loss,

Members gave their thaughts, but none of them worked,

Now please don't Take my word for this, because this might not be your problem at all,
But tech 2, could be your answer,(a type of rebooting your engine ecu)

    I didn't do that though,
I baught an already programmed engine ecu,(suited to my car) and simply replaced it with my faulty or spiked ecu,
and everything worked fine after that, many pennies later lol

As i say this might not be the case with your car, an expensive route to take,

    Bri

Thanks for that guys. I did notice when I was changing the coolant temp sensor that one of the wires going into the connector had a bare wire showing. Is it easy enough to replace this by patching a replacement connector into the loom. Any idea where this cable originates? Also if this is not the cause will it do any damage to the engine by running cool?
