    Car juddering on ice

I was on an icy road yesterday and when my wheels locked up the brake pedal juddered quite badly. It did this in neutral so it wasnt the engine about to stall.
Is it the ABS? Because it sounds horrible.

Ive used ABS before when on a normal road and it works quite smoothly, but on ice it makes a horrible sound, sort of similar to when you try and change gear without pushing the clutch in. Is that definately normal because it seems more dangerous than anything

imo the abs is much better than not having it on ice. in the past 2 years weve had bad ice where i live and iv driven a corsa on it once. the corsas brakes just locked and i went straight on while going round a bend, whereas in my astra the abs pumps the brakes and it actually still steered around said corner.

would agree with the reply above but if your trying to slow down after engine braking you can do a better job without the abs
