Things to do/places to go in and around Nottingham area

After a bit of advise really, myself and the missus have got a lodge booked at the new Hoseasons development near Edwinstowe which is just north of Nottingham. Won't be going until end of January, but just wondered if anyone around that area could recommend things to do during the week whilst we are up that way.

I know theres the Peak District which we will more than likely be spending some time up that way, but wondered what else there is for us to do.

Not too sure on that area of the country, hence why I am asking.

Am aware that Alton Towers is around an hours drive, I know the park itself will be closed, but considering still going for the water park.

Suggestions welcome, also if anyone fancies an evening mini-meet during week of 31st Jan to 4th Feb then let me know

Sounds good mate, looking at where it is on the map, seems closer to Warsop than it does to Edwinstowe. Am sure we could meet up at a KFC or something similar near to there.

Clumber Park, Sherwood Forest and Rufford Country Park are all very close

Sherwood Pines is on the doorstep, and you should visit 'the desert' whilst you're there

Wollaton Hall is great, there's wild deer roaming the grounds that are so tame you can go right up to them

Dovedale is a MUST if you're near alton towers...

Shopping is the best in the UK around January sales time. It's like London but without the Londoners Meadowhall just up the M1 is good for that too
    Sherwood forest is good too
Nightlife is widely said to be the best in UK
