Finally got round to picking up some coolant from Vaux with the intention of its first renewal in 2yrs. Weather permitting, i'll be doing it this weekend, or pretty soon hopefully.
I intend on flushing & back flushing (say now whether this is a bad idea or not) the system, and i've read the 'stat needs to come out for this).
Had a gander where it is & it doesn't appear too difficult to get to. Question comes as to getting it back.....
* Is there a paper gasket? I'm sure i read there's not & to just use silicone sealant.
Any silicone sealant good enough? Or has to be type-specific? I picked this at random from Halfords (http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_165691 Loctite 5699 Premium Silicone Grey Gasket Maker/Sealant Cat code: 599738-0) If it's pricey, then i'm afraid we have no local motor factor here. It's Halfords or the internet i'm afraid.
* If the silicone alone is fine, then thin bead - not smothering? Or would this make sod all difference?
* With the flushing - my thought would be to stick the hose in & go for maximum tap flow to flush out any crap. Is this fine or do you advise against it?
** I think that's it. Can't think of anything else. If you can think of any pointers a novice / I, would likely need to know, then feel free to shoot away.
