    oil consumption

reading owners manual, it says the A16 xer engine thats in mk 6 petrol uses 0.6 l per 1000km.surely not, that would mean putting in 1 l every 2000miles or so ?

    Carlisle ftw

That's the upper limit, the serious upper limit. They shouldn't use that much at all if it's been well looked after/driven and using the right grade of oil.

Still worth checking oil every 3-4 weeks, running low on oil = bad

Keep an eye on the Cumbrian Region too, we manage to organise a meet now and again!

Manufacturers usually quote 1 litre per 1000 miles as the upper limit, any less than this they have a 'get out clause' for warranty purposes. If over the limit they will put right under warranty, under the limit, they don't want to know. (Toyota were replacing short motors, up to 7 years old and up to 100,000 miles due to known fault in piston design of VVTi engines)
Vauxhall went through a stage of oil burning due to valve stem oil seals some years ago and again used the 1 litre per 1000 mile yardstick.
Check oil regularly, it's a lot cheaper than an engine rebuild.
