    Where is the EGR valve?

    Heya,

having bit of trouble locating EGR valve, its astra 2.2 SRI 2000, think that makes the engine Z22SE.

Have a problem with delay when pulling away and some kangeroo-ing, loss of power issues, so have cleaned out throttle body, now need to find the EGR!

Also, when I removed TB, there was no gasket, does the gasket have to be metal or are paper ones ok?

    Thanks in advance...CJ

if i remember correctly - not all Z22SE have EGR valves, i mean that some had a blanking plate fitted

cant offer advice on where its located although i could find it personally, just hard to try and explain

it does however look like this if fitted

oh and id imagine the gasket is just a plasticy type thing as used on a majority of appications. therefore gasket paper should be upto the job if u cant get hold of a pukka one (if however u want the correct part, then u can get one from Vauxhall using part number 90537818 )

id recommend the official route personally in case its not a simple paper type affair

    Welcome to AOC

The EGR is on the far right of the engine.

see the rusty thing under the loom in this piccy? - that's your EGR

The throttle body does have a gasket - it's a rubber ring that sits in a slot on the inlet manifold directly under the TB.

you can see the slot here...

First class pic, thanks for that....mine is also rusted up...may seem like a dumb question this, but I think I have seen somewhere that some egr valves you can clean and some you cant?

Mine looks like in the pic, straight cylinder going up with plug at the top, not sure what the other would look like?

And astraparts....may end up phoning you soon!

Most engines will need the ECU software updating when fitting a blank and having the EGR disconnected from the elec plug

so dont go binning it and expecting it to be perfect

Not a dumb question at all.

You can try cleaning it, but TBH how the hell people shift baked on carbon deposits with a squirt of carb cleaner and a gleeful shake I'll never know. I doubt very much if attempting to clean it does anything at all

On a similar note, just not to start a new thread, how should the EGR gasket be fitted? It has these sharper edges on the holes that will let exhaust through that can either face the engine or the EGR. I cannot find any pics or description...

    Thanks!!
