it may be totally unrelated mate but ive just got mine back from a broken gearbox and clutch, and this was how it started, followed by a whining then eventual failure.

mine was also failing to get into reverse till after a few trys, whats yours like?

every vauxhall i have owned (11) has been notorious for 1st and 2nd gear stiffness, changing the oil does not really help. you could try resetting the gear linkage as this sometimes helps

hi buddy, the gear change in my mk 4 2001 1.6 8v is rubbish most of the time. it goes into gear yes but feels like shite as it goes into gear. ive changed the gear oil, re built the gear linkage and added some additives to the gear oil and no difference. i think its down to a worn syncromesh in my case. despite the gears sometimes being terrible the gearbox or clutch hasnt packed in on me yet. the cold winter mornings sometimes affect the gear change aswell.

Mine's the same when it's cold. I've reset the linkage, changed the gearbox oil etc. and it's still the same! Weirdly not as bad in the summer though :|
