    X18XE1 Remap, worth it??

Hey guys got a 1.8 coupe X18XE1 its got a strate through catback system and airbox mods with a high flow filter. Its pritty fast atm seems to piss on all other astra 1.8s

Im just wondering if a remap would be worth it im not really arsed about how many extra ponys i will gain more about the feel of the car and atm id like the the rev limiter to be a bit higher i know the 1.8 power band is sposed to fall off at 6250 rpm but mine just feels like its got lots more to go.

im considering a remap, but only to improve drivability

i think my 1.8 would be faster than yours as its got the later engine and the same mods as you and is lighters aswel, so all the 1.8s you must be racing the drivers arent trying lol

to your question, its upto you really, your only gona gain about 10bhp from a map but its the fuel consumption and drivability you want

No, waste of money imo. It's only really worth mapping turbo engines.

get some fast road cams in there before considering a remap

if ur not arsed about the remap, have the money to consider one but not even bothered about the power..... and want to actually feel the difference then cams are the way forward

Problem is i dont really have enough money for both i can get a custom remap for £170.
Courtenay want £1365 for cams and remap which is just too much imho and they only flash your ecu.

only a fool would pay that kinda money though!!!

Have a word with Piper Cams and see what they can do

Either regrind your existing ones, or get a used set and have them done, or get a pair made from blanks.

    Then get your "custom" map

    DONE!

Heres their prices/info for the Z18XE engine...... so I would assume the X18XE1 prices are not far off these.

Could all be done including your remap for less than £500

Go for a remap now if your not planning to any other engine mods
    otherwise wait til your finished.

    Cams are great fun!

but fit a higher flowing exhasut manifold and sports cat to maximise the gains
then go for a remap, raising your rev limit will see a even greater boost in bhp!

Good find Geordie, £210 for re-ground cams is a fantastic price!

Thanks GeordieBandit great find, im pritty sure Z18XE cams fit the X18XE1 as its more or less the same engine, im not willing to risk it tho as im not 100% :P

I might start saving as cambelt will need doing soon and get cams done with this.

Have a hunt for a larger throttle body, change the injector size and have the rev limiter removed this with a 200 cat back exhaust and air filter and a map(170 seems to good to be true) mines was £470 and with the above run exact 164bhp!. ive spent over £2600 on ma coupes gains but too costly to take further to gain very little..

Any more and you would want to look at cams/pulleys ect but would only gain another 6-8bhp on the 1.8 coupe, then you can start looking at the dbilas turbo conversion but keep in mind its not just a diy kit as a fair few changes not listed will have to be made to the block before you can jump in and start pissin off more 1.8's.mind you its over £4800 for the kit then fitting then other changes so a safe £6k and your laughing, or just buy a turbo coupe andget rid of the 1.8.

And the z18xe is totally different from the x18xe1, same model as mine and the last of the line may models buddy!

Be wise in your cam choice too if your thinking about them, as what gains there also means a loss elsewhere!..
